a few weeks ago, our old friends from phoenix, scott & jill, spent some time with us in lansing. i have shared their story here before: they got married, quit their jobs, and decided to honeymoon for the next 12 months by road tripping across the usa with their two sweet pups. the best part (for us) is that they are sharing their journey by posting about their adventures on their travel blog, 12legstravel. we have been following their trip from the beginning, so it was totally surreal to see the 12-legs-mobile (not to mention them) parked in front of our house. in lansing. which isn't exactly sundance or austin.
we've perfected the ideal lansing visit down to a science: there is no particular sight that one must visit or restaurant where one must eat. so we ride bikes. we road our bikes, walked the dogs, cooked and ate out, learned about whiskey, and played tennis. all the while luke and i bombarded them with questions about their trip.
at one point on our way to the courts, i had to run after a runaway plastic bag, so jill took mateo and unica. when i looked back, it was like seeing me, from far away. it made me laugh.
we didn't realize until too late that they are practically tennis pros. (sorry guys - luke never played and i was kicked off the team senior year for not being good enough.)
the best part of their visit, i think we'd all say, was hanging out on the porch. they have so many incredible stories - from their trip and their wedding and their jobs as a writer and a photographer. luke and i didn't want them to leave.
before they left, we remembered to get one of our traditional you-visited-us photos of them in the backyard. looking through the 20 or so we took was hilarious. one dog was either biting the other, or running away, or scratching itself. totally hilarious, totally perfect.
you can check out their year on the road here. safe travels, friends! we are so glad you came to lansing!
