texas

we're back! mateo and i had a wonderful 5 days in dallas with my family. he is much more social now than the last time they'd seen him. he had lots of long conversations with my dad, and great walks around the block with my mom, plus cuddles and holds from everyone.

oh! and the flights there and back were problem-free. thankfully, he slept almost the whole time and didn't make a single sound. i think this is a good age to fly.

my mom, (the craftiest person ever), taught me how to quilt. she made the triangle pieces into little squares before i came, then we both sewed the squares together, and she showed me how to finish it off at home. i hope i can remember. isn't it great though?

we also went into a knitting studio in celina, tx, where the owner gave us an impromptu private knitting lesson. we'd both done some knitting before, but it has been awhile and we wanted to learn again. we left 2 hours later with knitting and purling knowledge and armed with 2 sets of fancy schmancy needles and 4 skiens of yarn. by the end of our week together, we'd both finished a scarf.

i can't really talk about our trip without mentioning the food. there was a lot of it to be eaten (which i did). we had several yummy mexican meals (tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, burritos) since we can't get that in michigan, chik'fil'a (also not in mi), cherry limeades, calzones, salads, s'mores and i can't possibly not confess to swiping slices every few hours of my mom's amazing texas sheet cake.

some down time too, mostly in the backyard on their porch swing where mateo couldn't help but fall asleep. it was so great spending time with them. thank you mom and dad!
