the next stop on our road trip was washington dc. our friend matt lives there now (in an amazing castle house - see below) so we not only got to hang out in a great city, but we were able to see a great friend.
i've been to dc a few times before, but this was luke's first time and we wanted to see as much as possible. we spent the entire day walking the national mall for the most part, hopping in and out of museums and checking out the monuments, white house, capitol and people watching. we had such a great time! my favorite spot is still the fdr memorial, and luke's became the jefferson monument.
mateo slept most of the day and we took turns rotating him between us with the sling, baby bijorn, arms and laps. he did great and we all felt good about our travel abilities and adaptability as a new family.
so the following is a messy collection of where we went and what we saw. in the morning we were full of energy (check out the first shot of mateo - ready for his first day touristing) and by the end of the day we were super sunny and exhausted. all in all we walked around 8 miles lugging around not only a baby but two giant cameras and a heavy diaper bag in the hot sun. the end of our touring around found us sitting on the steps watching the sunset at the capitol. a perfect ending.

is the White House all big & impressive, or kinda small?
ReplyDeleteyou know, luke said it was much smaller than he imagined. and he thought the capitol was bigger!
ReplyDeleteGreat Pictures! I am so jealous. We were going to visit DC last summer while visiting Gettysburg but we weren't able to. We are definitly planning a DC trip eventually.
