our new porch

the greatest transformation of the week had to be our porch.
when we moved in, the porch was covered in pieces of dirty, wet, old carpet. we pulled it up right away and this is what the floor has looked like since:

obviously, not ideal. so my dad, grandpa and luke began tearing it up right away.

there was nicer wood underneath the unfinished slabs of boards above. but these were old and rotting too, so they took them off. we were all interested to see what was underneath the floor. (pretty much nothing).

they went to a lumberyard for new planks of of wood, and we picked out a red stain for them.

the floor looks amazing, and the entire porch feels different. to top it off, my grandparents bought luke a swing (we'd been talking about getting one all week) for his birthday. check out the finished porch, with swing, below:

it totally feels like an outdoor livable space now. we've been spending as much time as possible out there. and we knew a swing would be nice, but we didn't realize how nice until we had it. even mateo enjoys it.

thank you family!

  1. I love the posts about your house. Since we might be moving to Lansing next year after Eric graduates, we've already started looking at houses online.
You guys are doing a great job fixing up the house. It looks great!
OH, thanks for the compliment on my swaddling! It's from the Happiest Baby on the Block dvd--a life saver!!

  3. I thought you were in my Google Reader, but apparently not since I just hopped on over here and saw a ton of posts I hadn't seen before. :) Anyways, I'm jealous that your dad and gpa were there and helped you with so many house projects! I wish someone would come visit us and do lots of work on our house, too. haha.

Oh yeah, and Mateo is DARLING!

  7. My, it's a very nice improvement. The new porch looks nice, and it has a "home sweet home" feel to it. There's a lot of room and potential for that porch to look even better, so good job and keep at it!
