a home for us?

we just put an offer on a house! this is our second time making an offer - the first time for this new house, and since we know by now that anything can happen i won't get into too many details. it has 4 bedrooms, and a nice sunroom for our plants and possibly our puerto rico hammock that has been in a box since the good old days in san juan. it has a very small yard but since we are in michigan and there are 6 months of winter, we aren't too worried about that. :)

so now we are praying and hoping and trusting God that we will get it if it is the right place for us.

week 16 - an avocado

i haven't posted about our fruit baby in awhile. the little one has been the size of a peach, a lemon, an orange and now - one of our favorite things - an avocado!

we spent part of tonight's date night at babies 'r' us. it was our first time there, to sort of get an idea of things we should be thinking about and looking out for. it seemed like everything - everything - was $100-$300. we want to stay pretty grounded though and just buy what we really need, and not get wrapped up in all the things babies 'r' us says we need. plus, we are hoping to spend some time in the next months searching for used items or making homemade stuff ourselves, since that appeals more to our values and budget.

if you have any opinion on what is really needed (or not), please leave us a note below. :)

road trip to the u.p.

a few weeks ago we drove 5 hours north to the upper peninsula of michigan. it was the peak time for fall leaves and it was a beautiful drive. especially wonderful was that it gave us plenty of time to talk and catch up and dream and discover once we got away from our busy schedules.

we stopped first at the mackinac bridge where you cross over to the upper peninsula:

once on the other side, we found a hidden forest road and stopped for awhile to hike around and enjoy it:

we headed home late and got through the drive with a large pizza to go and some mackinac city fudge. :) we definitely need to go back with more time to hike and camp and explore more.

these were my favorite shots of the day:

sewing skirts

my nieces saw that i have been sewing skirts lately, and they asked me to sew them some. i've only made skirts in my size but i thought I could try to shrink the pattern. i took them each to the fabric store and had them choose the fabric of their choice without the others around so they wouldn't be influenced by each other.

i took rachael first. she is 7 and chose hot pink fabric with tiny white polka dots. then i took bella. she is 6 and i was shocked when she chose hot pink fabric with large white polka dots! how did they manage to pick the two fabrics most like each other out of thousands? here they are below:

and here they are in the skirts i made, wrinkled a bit after a day of wearing them at school:

hannah picked out a blue fabric that i loved. she is learning to sew and wanted to learn how to make a skirt, so she picked a black fabric to sew with beside me. she did so good for her first time. here she is in the skirt i made:

a beautiful little heartbeat!

today was amazing. we met our official doctor for the first time. she listened for the baby's heartbeat. and we heard it. it was tiny and small and fast. 174 beats per minute. she said it sounded healthy and normal. we both we in shock and speechless and had tears in our eyes.

it feels more real now. we are so amazed. thanks to God for blessing us with the miracle of life.
